Concrete slabs are subject to constant thermal expansion and contraction, which inevitably leads to cracking if not managed correctly. At Vincent Buda and Company, we supply Jointex Concrete Expansion Joint, a technical bitumised fibreboard designed to absorb these stresses.

Jointex acts as a compressible "buffer" between concrete pours, allowing for independent movement while preventing the ingress of incompressible debris that can lock a joint. It is essential for any external driveway, footpath, or large internal warehouse floor.

Each length is available in 2.4m lengths and is sold per piece. 9.5mm thick.

Four Primary Applications

  • Driveway Construction: Providing expansion relief between driveway slabs and public footpaths.
  • Large Commercial Slabs: Essential jointing for retail and industrial concrete floors to prevent cracking.
  • Masonry to Concrete Joints: Isolating brick walls from concrete paths to manage differential movement.
  • Civil Roadworks: The industry standard for expansion control in public concrete paths and kerbs.

Why choose Jointex Expansion Joint?

  • Bitumised Performance: Resistant to water and rot, ensuring the joint remains effective for decades.
  • High Compressibility: Absorbs slab movement without transferring stress to the surrounding structure.
  • Trade Reliability: Rigid enough to remain upright during the concrete pour but flexible enough for movement.
  • Fast Delivery: We ship orders out same day or next day to keep your concrete schedule on track.

Jointex is typically supplied in 9.5mm thickness. The width you choose should match the depth of your concrete slab. For example, a 100mm thick driveway slab requires a 100mm wide Jointex strip to provide full-depth expansion protection.

For a clean, professional finish, many installers leave the Jointex slightly below the surface and apply a flexible sealant over the top of the joint. This helps prevent water, dirt, and debris from entering the expansion joint, improving the long-term durability of the concrete.

Jointex is a traditional fibreboard expansion joint that provides a firmer edge during the concrete pour. While foam products are lighter and easier to cut, many civil contractors and engineers prefer fibreboard for its rigidity and durability in heavier-duty concrete applications.

Jointex can be secured using steel pegs, stakes, or small dabs of mortar. Simply position the board against your formwork or the edge of the previous concrete pour, then fix it in place so it stays upright while the wet concrete is placed.

All Jointex products are available for same-day or next-day delivery within the Sydney Metro.
