Stormwater Maxi Mesh Trash Screen

Commonly referred to as Trench Mesh, our Maxi Mesh Trash Screens are designed for On-Site Detention (OSD) stormwater systems. Installed over orifice plates or outlet pipes, they act as a durable debris screen that prevents leaves, silt, and rubbish from entering stormwater discharge lines.

By protecting the outlet from blockage, Maxi Mesh helps maintain consistent discharge flow rates, ensuring the OSD system operates as designed during heavy rain events.

Manufactured from heavy-duty hot-dip galvanised expanded steel, these screens provide excellent corrosion resistance in wet environments such as concrete pits, stormwater tanks, and underground detention systems.

Product Drawings & Dimensions

Standard industry sizes available:

These sizes are designed to suit common OSD pit configurations used across commercial and residential stormwater systems.

Technical Overview

Material

Hot-dip galvanised expanded steel for long-term corrosion protection in wet or submerged environments.

Function

Forms a protective cage around the outlet or orifice plate, allowing water to flow through multiple mesh surfaces while preventing debris from blocking the discharge point.

Installation

Typically fixed directly to the pit wall or over the outlet pipe using galvanised or stainless masonry anchors.

Why Use Maxi Mesh Trash Screens?

Prevents Outlet Blockages

Large mesh surface area reduces the risk of debris completely covering the outlet opening.

Maintains Stormwater Flow Rates

Helps OSD systems maintain their designed discharge capacity during heavy rainfall events.

Simplifies Maintenance

Debris collects on the screen, where it can be easily removed during routine pit inspections.

Built for Harsh Environments

Heavy-gauge galvanised expanded steel resists deformation, corrosion, and hydraulic pressure.

The screen is typically installed over the outlet pipe or orifice plate inside the stormwater pit or OSD Tank. It is fixed to the pit wall so all water leaving the system passes through the mesh before entering the discharge pipe.

Like all stormwater filtration devices, it should be inspected after heavy rainfall. Debris collected on the screen can usually be removed quickly by lifting the pit grate and clearing the accumulated material.

Yes. The screen is fabricated from rigid expanded steel, providing far greater structural strength than standard wire mesh and allowing it to withstand high-velocity stormwater flows.

The Maxi Mesh trash screen is typically fixed to the pit wall using 10mm x 50mm galvanised Dynabolts (sleeve anchors) through the pre-drilled fixing points on the frame. For best results, Vincent Buda and Company recommends securing all four fixing points to ensure the screen remains stable during heavy stormwater flows.

For easier maintenance, the bolts can be installed with a slight 10mm offset, allowing the Maxi Mesh to be lifted off the anchors when required. This makes it easier to remove the screen and clear any trapped debris during routine pit cleaning.
