They can both be used for dampcourse, but other than that, they have different applications.

Malthoid is a fibre felt impregnated in bitumen and covered in fine sand. It's used as a dampcourse in brick and block walls, waterproofing flat roofs, and under corrugated iron water tanks. It's inert to lime and mortar mixes.

Poly DPC is a 500um-thick black polyethylene with an embossed surface. It's effective for moisture protection as a dampcourse material and can be used as concealed flashing under timber window and door frames. It cannot be used for exposed applications.

No, it is a non-adhesive membrane. It is held in place by the weight of the masonry or timber above it. For vertical applications, it can be tacked or held with a specialised bitumen adhesive.

It is an underlayment, not a final roof finish. Malthoid should always be covered by a primary roofing material like tiles or steel to protect it from direct UV exposure and foot traffic.

It should match your wall thickness. For a standard brick veneer home, use 110mm width. For double brick, use 230mm. Vincent Buda and Company stocks all standard widths for same-day or next-day delivery within the Sydney Metro Area.
