Our Expansion Brick Ties are the technical solution for joining two skins of masonry while allowing for necessary thermal and moisture movement. Typically used in brick construction, these ties ensure that as your walls expand and contract at different rates, they remain securely tied together without causing stress cracks in your wall and mortar.

These ties are specifically designed to take the guesswork out of vertical expansion joints, providing the correct spacing and connection required in masonry construction. As a general rule, vertical expansion joints should be installed every 5–6 metres in brickwork to manage natural movement.

Available in both Galvanised and 316 Stainless Steel, these ties are sold in convenient boxes of 20 pieces, providing a heavy-duty connection for residential and commercial masonry.

Key Features at a Glance

  • Movement-Ready: Specifically designed for expansion joints, allowing for lateral movement while maintaining a high-strength structural bond.
  • Takes the Guesswork Out: Designed to suit the correct 10–20mm vertical expansion joint gap required in masonry construction.
  • Dual Finish Options:
    • Galvanised Zinc: The industry standard for cost-effective, long-lasting protection in most environments.
    • Stainless Steel: The premium option for coastal areas (within 1km of the ocean) or highly corrosive industrial zones.
  • Double Brick Optimised: Engineered with the correct length and stiffness to bridge the cavity between two skins of brickwork.
  • Tradie-Ready Packaging: Sold in boxes of 20 pieces for easy handling and inventory management on-site.

Expansion ties connect the brickwork across a vertical expansion joint while still allowing each side of the wall to expand and contract independently. The folded centre of the tie allows controlled movement while maintaining structural connection between the masonry.
Expansion ties should be installed at every vertical expansion joint in the wall. As a general rule, vertical expansion joints should be installed every 5–6 metres in brickwork to accommodate natural thermal and moisture movement.
Standard wall ties are rigid and designed to permanently connect two skins of masonry. Expansion ties are different because they include a folded centre section that allows movement, preventing cracking or stress in the brickwork around expansion joints.
No. These expansion ties do not use a plastic sleeve. Instead, the folded centre section of the tie provides the required movement allowance, allowing the masonry on either side of the expansion joint to move while still keeping the wall structurally connected.
