Flat bar lintels provide a discreet, "low-profile" solution for supporting brickwork over smaller openings. At Vincent Buda and Company, our Flat Bars are made from high-quality structural steel and Hot-Dip Galvanised (R3) to ensure they never rust or cause expansion cracking. Because they are thin and flat, they can be tucked effortlessly into mortar joints or hidden behind render, making them a favourite for modern architectural designs where a traditional angle isn't required. Flat bars are typically used for smaller spans where the load is lighter. Since 1957, we’ve provided these versatile structural sections to trades across Australia. Vincent Buda and Company stocks all standard widths and thicknesses for same day or next day delivery within Sydney Metro.

Four Primary Applications for Flat Lintels:

Internal Doorways: Providing a discreet, cost-effective support for non-load bearing openings.
Slimline Rendering: Supporting brickwork where there is no vertical room for an angle bar.
Decorative Arches: Providing a horizontal support base for arched brickwork.
Outdoor BBQ Areas: Using rust-proof steel for small, exposed masonry openings.

    Why choose our Flat Lintels?

Rust Protective Performance: Hot-dip galvanised to prevent rust streaks on your finish.
Minimalist Design: Extremely low profile and easily hidden within masonry joints.
Versatile Use: Suitable for a wide range of small residential and commercial spans.
Fast Delivery: We ship orders out the same day or the next day within the Sydney Metro to keep your job moving.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

They are designed for light-to-medium loads only. Because they lack the vertical leg of an angle bar, they are best suited for smaller spans where the masonry weight is lower. If unsure, consult your engineer with our Load Tables. Click Here for Load Table.
No, they sit directly on a bed of mortar. They are secured by the weight of the bricks above and the bond of the mortar joint.
No, flat bars are designed for single-skin (veneer) masonry only. Because they lack a vertical rib for stiffness, they cannot support the weight of a wide cavity wall without sagging. For double-skin openings, you must use two Angle Bars (Lintel) or one T-Bar to ensure the build remains structural and compliant with AS2699.3.
We offer same-day or next-day delivery within the Sydney Metro. Vincent Buda and Company keeps deep stock of all common flat bar sizes for immediate dispatch.
